What if, instead of extending, we reorganise?

Magill House is a single storey family home nestled in the foothills of Adelaide. Built in the 1950s from cement block and brick, it carries its history in its floors. A patchwork of different timber boards tells a story of post-war scarcity, and the signs of past termite damage are still there.

From the start, we set three clear intentions. We would reshape the layout to suit the way the family lives and uses the space. We would keep the original floorboards, repairing what was damaged and leaving the different timbers in place to tell the story of the house. And we would not extend. Instead, we would make better, more rational use of the existing footprint.

The real beauty of this house lies in its light and the way it sits on the block. Everything we did was designed to work with these qualities and to enhance the experience of living there.
